First Day of Kindergarten

Today is Arden's first day of Kindergarten.  He is going to the Kindergarten program at the AOL daycare, so there's not much of a change for him.  We still have one more year to prepare for the changes public school will bring.

 

End of Summer Party

Arden and Reed's daycare had a end of summer party.  Reed was very apprehensive with the activities initially, but quickly got comfortable and loved everything.

Reed would not ride in the seat next to me on the train though, he liked feeling secure on my lap.

Arden Goes to Work

Today Arden got to go to work for his first "Take Your Child to Work Day".

He had a lot of fun doing the kid activities and watching a movie, but I was glad that at the end of the day he realized that I don't have fun like that everyday.  I asked him what he thinks I do for work and he responded with a pretty accurate answer "add up numbers".  He needed to add up some numbers for one of the activities today so he got to use a calculator...maybe next year he will experience how to add numbers up in Excel.

Here were the activities Arden and I chose from the list of options for today:
- Scavenger Hunt
- Minute to Win It games (that's what all of the videos below are from)
- Lunch (including a make your own sundae station for dessert)
- Coloring
- Decorate a cookie with markers that had edible ink
- Selling raffle tickets for t-ball (this obviously wasn't an AOL event but it satisfied his desire to walk around and talk to people I work with, he got to practice memorizing a "speech" and re-telling it and he was able to get rid of 7 tickets)
- Watched Frozen, which true to his form it included him shaking and needing hugs during the scary parts and tearing up during the sad parts...he is quite sensitive to the feelings of others even cartoons even with this being his second time seeing the movie

Yes pulling out a bunch of tissues as the end was slightly against the rules, but other groups did it and it was worth breaking a rule to avoid massive disappointment for Arden who was usually competing against much older kids.

Ice Skating

This past weekend, Arden went ice skating for his second time.  He did not do real well (too scared of falling), but at least one of the videos shows that if he really tried then he did ok.

Star struck

We went to a birthday party this weekend and got to meet RGIII. The father the birthday girl is the Sr VP of PR for the Redskins. Last year we met Lorenzo Alexander, but this year was much more impressive and a surprise since RGIII doesn't have any kids. The party today was at an ice rink so everyone that happened to be there for public skating time got a nice surprise of skating with someone famous.

Arden and Brandon went to DC after the birthday party to attend the auto show and Monster Jams (monster truck show). At the auto show Arden met some Super Why characters.

Reed did not get hot cocoa but he enjoyed some whipped cream:
