Bob books

Arden's daycare starts teaching the kids how to read when they are 4 years old.  He has known his letter sounds for awhile so we tried to teach him how to sound out words a few months ago, but he wasn't interested in learning then.  The daycare uses the Scholastic Bob books.  They work on each book for two weeks before sending the book home with the kids.  After two weeks of repetition the kids pretty much have the book memorized; however, we have tested Arden's ability to sound out words that are not in the book and he can figure out some three and four letter words by himself.

It's so rewarding when your kids reach a major milestone and Arden's start of reading is a huge accomplishment for him.  It's such a great feeling to see him be proud of himself and want to show off his reading skills to all of us (including Reed).

  1. We have a few sets, but found that though they were good in the beginning, Meghan quickly lost interest. Meghan fought it initially, but then was reading on her own. Evan has deep interest in words and spelling, just not reading individual words (this week...if like Meghan next week might be different).
